Photographing the Unafor Design Installation at the Apple Store in Santa Rosa

Some projects immediately click creatively — and this was one of them.

When I was first introduced to the recent Unafor Design installation at the Apple Store in Santa Rosa, California, I instantly fell in love with the concept. As someone who genuinely enjoys photographing clean architecture, minimal luxury design, and commercial spaces, this project felt right up my alley from the start.

The installation itself blends modern protection barriers with elevated industrial design in a way that feels intentional, architectural, and incredibly clean — something that’s honestly refreshing to see in public-facing commercial spaces.

A Perfect Blend of Luxury and Function

What I appreciated most about this project is how subtle the design feels in person.

Instead of overpowering the storefront, the installation complements the architecture around it:

  • clean lines

  • modern materials

  • intentional spacing

  • minimal industrial aesthetics

It’s functional without feeling intrusive — and that balance is what makes great design stand out.

Especially at a location like the Apple Store, where minimalism already plays such a strong role in the overall environment, the installation felt naturally integrated into the space.

Photographing Minimal Architecture and Commercial Design

Minimal design is deceptively difficult to photograph well.

When there are fewer elements in a scene, every detail matters:

  • reflections

  • symmetry

  • lighting

  • composition

  • texture

  • negative space

That’s why I enjoy projects like this so much.

For this shoot, I focused heavily on:

  • clean architectural framing

  • environmental context

  • symmetry and spacing

  • capturing the interaction between the installation and the storefront itself

The goal was to create imagery that felt:

  • commercial

  • polished

  • elevated

  • architectural

  • and true to the client’s vision

And honestly, I think the final images turned out exactly that way.

Capturing Luxury Design in Northern California

Northern California has such a strong mix of:

  • modern architecture

  • luxury retail

  • industrial minimalism

  • contemporary storefront design

Projects like this are a reminder of why I love photographing commercial and design-focused work throughout California.

The textures, materials, and structure of this installation worked beautifully with the clean visual identity surrounding the Apple Store location in Santa Rosa.

The Gear Behind the Shoot

For this project, I photographed primarily using:

  • Sony A7C

  • Sony 24–70mm f/2.8 GM

That combination gave me the flexibility to:

  • capture wide architectural compositions

  • isolate design details

  • maintain sharpness throughout the frame

  • work quickly in a public retail environment

I’ve talked more about my camera setup and lens upgrades in my
👉 Sony 24–70mm GM lens upgrade blog post

And projects like this are exactly why that upgrade has been worth it.

Why I Love Design Projects Like This

I’ve realized over time that I’m most creatively inspired by:

  • luxury spaces

  • modern architecture

  • boutique commercial environments

  • intentional industrial design

There’s something incredibly rewarding about photographing spaces and installations that were clearly created with care.

This Unafor Design project was minimal, clean, and quietly luxurious — exactly the type of work I love creating around.

Final Thoughts

This project was a reminder that impactful design doesn’t need to be loud.

Sometimes the strongest visual statements come from:

  • restraint

  • simplicity

  • texture

  • intentional detail

Photographing this installation at the Apple Store in Santa Rosa was genuinely a pleasure, and I’m excited to continue working on more architecture and luxury commercial design projects throughout California.
